HDR vs. Sensor Crop Use Cases?

Can anyone please provide some input into when using HDR would be prefered over sensor crop and vice-versa.

Do many of you use Sensor crop regions?

"High dynamic range (HDR) is performed in software, and can be problematic in scenes with fast moving objects. Wide dynamic range (WDR) is a term more commonly used in the CCTV industry. Most often, HDR and WDR solve the problem of lack of detail in dark areas of an otherwise bright image and/or lack of detail in the bright areas of an image."

These features aren't related. You wouldn't use one over the other as they do completely different things.

Surely there is some relation considering you cannot use HDR when sensor crop is being used.
