Sad / bad feeling about current economic situation

Hey guys,

In this current economic climate I can't help but feel like it's all going down the drain a bit.

We are having so much supply issues.  Having to tell customers they will have to wait close to a year to receive their order with no real outlook to better times.  Work is bound to decline in the future due to this.

Experienced colleagues are leaving one by one and this is paired with the lack of inflow of good starters or experienced people.  Nothing is wrong with the company I'm working with, we have a laid back style of working with a decent pay for the area we are in.  However technical profiles are so rare these days people can just jump ship the moment they might get a little advantage elsewhere.

What are your thoughts.  Are you seeing similar issues?  Or has nothing hit you yet?

@GIdenJoe  Supply issues don't seem to be hitting me to hard but I am based in NZ and going by what I have read have have a much better shipping system than the US which is where I am assuming you are based.

Yes certain things are on backorder but most day to day IT equipment I haven't had to much trouble with.

In regard to staffing I work in a very specialised area , to find a job similar to what I do now is almost impossible as they dont come up often.

Feel your pain @GIdenJoe .  We’re in the UK. I have orders sat here for 100’s of APs which I can’t yet fulfil.

We’re a small outfit so nimble and hopefully able to weather the storm. Which in essence has been a perfect one:

- Brexit

- covid

- Chip shortages

If you enjoy where you currently work, ride it out. That loyalty should hopefully be remembered

I'm not an employee of Cisco/Meraki. My posts are based on Meraki best practice and what has worked for me in the field.

Same situation on the right side next to your border @GIdenJoe. We're quite a big shop here but are experiencing a lot of supply issues especially with Cisco equipment. There are other vendors jumping onto that ship who're able to deliver.

Talent shortage is another thing for us, but it's getting better. Fortunetaly enough, we're able to keep most of our go-to guys within the company. On the other hand, taking a look into the (possible) future, I'm also kinda worried. But we shall see...

I am starting to get in real trouble with supply. I am currently waiting on 20 MX67-HW, 62 MR-56 and 2 MX85-HW that are already sold, but have no idea when they will be shipped.

I am in the US, and the backlog has quashed my Meraki business.  I stopped ordering hardware when I received shipping exceptions that are 300 days out.  I trying to sell more Systems Manager and Insight licences, but that does not cover the lost hardware sales.

I went through this same thing last year with computers.  The supply just evaporated and ship dates went out 9 months.  This area is starting to get better, but I have to move quickly to secure computers my clients need.

This is a tough time to be a MSP selling hardware!

Agree, I have had to move to our HP/Aruba partnership and start selling and filling orders in the mean time.

My understanding is a lot of the issue in the US is to do with the ports and how they are funded at state level and not federal level therefore they cannot afford to increase the size / capacity.

Let's all just hope China does not invade Taiwan. That would be the end of the supply chain.
