Hi, a user has lost their iphone managed through MDM. I try to enable lost mode and get the above error. I would like to put it in Lost mode. Any help is appreciated.
That error message happens when the device is not supervised.
As a requirement, the Lost Mode feature is only available in DEP Supervised iOS devices running iOS 9.3+.
You can confirm if the device is supervised on its status page in Dashboard.
This user should be able to do that themselves via icloud.com then logging in with their personal Apple ID.
