Re: Please introduce yourself

Hi all,

My name is Carlos Ruiz. I am wireless engineer & Cisco Meraki specialist at Lennar Corp, a nationwide homebuilder with a massive Meraki network. I moved from the San Francisco bay area to the sunny Florida state where I live with my wife and baby boy. I am an ex-Meraki SE. I am very excited about joining this community to continue learning from Meraki engineers and users as well as share what I know.

Happy networking!

Kind of a big deal

Re: Please introduce yourself

Hi All! I guess I never formally introduced myself to the community. I am sixteen and into all things technology - networking, 3D printing, builds, and much more. Over the past two years, I have taught myself the MDM framework of Apple (both iOS and Mac) using several providers: Jamf, AirWatch, Meraki (my personal favorite), Simple MDM, and MobileIron (to name a few). I do part-time IT consulting for 1:1 deployment, network builds, and blog about my experiences. Currently, I am working on training myself on Windows Server and AD implementation at a large scale. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions on Meraki MDM, I am also very active in that specific "sub" community here. . . so if you ask, I may respond to your post!

Re: Please introduce yourself

My first networking experience was with a peer-to-peer run over Coax.  If I remember correctly, it seemed to be pretty reliable but had issues with collisions...and obviously bandwidth.

Kind of a big deal

Re: Please introduce yourself

@cmiarshvac - except for when someone unplugged the coax cable from their machine - anywhere on the network - taking the whole coax segment down.  I always had that happening when people were moving machines around.

The caption on the picture should read 10base5 not 10base2  ( I am getting old)

The DEC transceivers where added to the coax with a "vampire" tap,   We used to have to drill a hole in the coax and be careful not to short the shielding out with the center conductor.

The good old days!  :-)

Re: Please introduce yourself

YES!  I used to work on the network group at Digital.  I remember the first coax and taps and I worked on the first ethernet bridge and then terminal server management (TSM) software.

Re: Please introduce yourself

I worked with a former DEC field service engineer in the PDP 11 days.  He was quite a character.  His DEC employee number was quite low in the 100's I think.

Hello.  Network Engineer here.  I've been working with Meraki before they were purchased by Cisco and have worked with Cisco devices since 1996.  Big fan of Meraki and have convinced my current company to use Meraki as the new Wi-Fi standard as well as using the smaller switches for small remote sites.

Re: Please introduce yourself

Good afternoon, my name is Andrew with Storcom Inc., a Solutions Provider in the Greater Chicago Area.

I'm a huge fan of the Meraki gear and have deployed Meraki at a few client sites over the last year.

Got on the Meraki in a way of a special use case scenario.

Had a need to run a VPN tunnel to a PC and a few PoE cameras at multiple remote sites behind customer router/firewall and with minimal intervention.

Each site was identical, so templates were used.

The Z1 teleworker appliances were great for the above purpose.

Even did a deployment of the MC Phones, they are pretty slick!

Only thing I have not touched yet are the security cameras.

Hi there!

I'm Tyler Fisher, CIO at Gordon Memorial Health Services.  We run all Meraki with the exception of our core switches (which we'll replace with Meraki soon) and our phone system.

I actually wrote a little blog post a while back about our experience with Meraki, you can read it here if you're into that kind of thing.

I'm so happy to have received the email about the Community page!  This is something I was asking about from the first when we decided to deploy Meraki.  We're a fashion company with about 70 retail locations.  Installing Meraki has been an absolute life saver as we get into the holiday season!
